The boats have two rooftop tents each and bunk beds on the deck sleeping a total of six, ideal for families on a self-drive holiday adventure. Could it get any more fun? Yes it can. Wildlife is strangely unconcerned with floating vessels and you can get to within spitting distance of elephants, buffalos, lions, giraffes, zebras and general plains game along the water's edge. And in between spotting big game on the banks you can fish and spot birds or just lounge on the boat reading.
The base camp at Kutima Mulilo is three hours' drive from Victoria Falls and Chobe National Park making Caprivi Houseboat Safaris a perfect companion to your Vic Falls and Botswana safari. With some of Africa's best game viewing, a UNESCO Natural Wonder and the excitement of an overnight river adventure, this little corner of Namibia has just about everything you need for your ultimate African safari.
The lodge has five rustic en suite chalets hidden in the riverine forest along the Zambezi River. Reed walls open onto a private river view and ceiling fans and mosquito nets ensure a peaceful night's rest - although the you might find the morning roll-call of Pel's fishing owl, swamp bous bous, malachite kingfishers, lilac-breasted rollers and any of the 400 other bird species in the region a tad early.
Self-drive campers are catered for with three secluded campsites with power points and shared ablutions.
The camper boats - the reason for being here - are 7.5m long and equipped with cooking facilities, a shower and toilet and six beds (four on top and two bunk beds on the main deck). You can self-cater but we recommend you go for the fully catered option to make the most of your incredible river journey. Itineraries go from one night up to five nights on the river.
